As the winter holidays – and the cold weather approach – it’s time to get creative with holiday plans to maintain community safety while enjoying a little togetherness and holiday spirit.
Many of the Wyoming events you’ve known for years will return this winter, starting with the Wyoming Firefighters Association Turkey Raffle this Saturday, Nov. 21. However they will look a little different in 2020 due to the special circumstances of our times.
There are no upcoming events at this time.
Holiday shopping will go virtual this year, in partnership with The Wyoming Community Foundation’s Shop Wyoming campaign. The annual Holiday One Stop, another tradition that usually draws shoppers to the Civic Center for a day of fun, browsing unique local retailers, will now take place on Dec. 5-6 through Facebook instead. For the event page, click here or browse the dedicated online local business portal here. There will be lots of great deals and specials created especially for this two-day event. There is also a special hashtag for unique offers for this event: #WyoFavoriteThings. New This Year – An Outdoor Lights Decorating Contest
Get those twinkle lights ready! Wyoming will host its first ever house decorating contest starting Dec. 9. The “Get Lit” event, co-hosted by the Wyoming Community Foundation, will give homeowners a chance to show off their holiday style – from “most beautiful” to “most outlandish.”
Here’s how to participate: Choose a category – Most Beautiful, Most Traditional, Most Outlandish, Best Street (minimum of five houses to qualify). Email photos or videos of your creative brilliance to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include the category you are entering, as well as contact information, such as phone number, email, and family name.
Residents will be invited to vote for their favorites to choose winners. View all submissions from the Facebook event page here! To vote, click here no later than 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 12. Winners will be announced on Dec. 13. Winning families will receive a two-hour private bowling party at the Wyoming Civic Center candlepin lanes.
Look for future news about a house map walking tour and other special news about this weekend to coincide with Light Up Wyoming and the Get Lit.
Although a previous announcement in the city e-newsletter indicated the Wyoming Holiday Celebration would take place on the Village Green, that event has now been canceled due to updates in state COVID guidelines.
