Spring is finally here. With the warmer weather comes the urge to clean and purge our unwanted junk. The City of Wyoming has residents covered with several events to get rid of their stuff, including Upcycle Day, which gives you the opportunity to donate your reusable items to several local organizations. Upcycle Day, organized by the Wyoming Environmental Stewardship Commission, is happening Friday, April 21 from 12–6 p.m. at Oak Park.
The City’s previous three Upcycle events diverted a combined 49 tons of usable materials that would have otherwise gone to the landfill. These impressive results contributed to the City’s award for leading Hamilton County in waste diversion, and the Environmental Stewardship Commission wants Wyoming to maintain that status.
Several organizations will be at this year’s event, including Junk King, Matthew 25: Ministries, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, Habitat for Humanity Restore, New Life Furniture, Goodwill Industries, Eco Development, ReUse Center, and Applied Arts Center of Cincinnati.
In addition, New Life Furniture will offer home pickups. NLF accepts anything from furniture, mattresses, and rugs to working appliances, kitchen utensils, shower curtains, cleaning products, toilet paper, and paper towels. If residents don’t want to transport a large piece of furniture or working appliance to Upcycle Day, they can call NLF directly at 513-313-0530 to schedule pickup. They cannot enter your home, so items must be moved to the porch or driveway before their arrival.
